Intelligent Systems for Colonoscopy

Abstract:

Colorectal Cancer (CRC) is one of the most common causes of cancer death worldwide. CRC is the 2nd most common cancer diagnosed among women and the 3rd among men. Its early detection is key for patient survival and colonoscopy is still considered nowadays as the gold standard screening tool. In this talk we will present some of the different methodologies that the Image Sequence Lab from Computer Vision Center from Barcelona, Spain has proposed aiming to cover the most urgent needs cited by clinicians, from lesion detection to histology prediction. Apart from explaining the different approaches that we have developed, we will make a special emphasis on the validation of such methodologies including aspects such as ground truth generation or methodology comparison. Finally we will also cover some other projects tackle by our research group in the fields of Machine Vision and Image Social Evaluation .
