Master’s level
The department offers various Master’s degree programmes designed to expand and deepen expertise across all areas represented in our department. We place great importance on ensuring that graduate students possess a solid academic foundation and have the ability to perceive constitutional and administrative law from multiple perspectives..
During the Master's degree phase, students have the opportunity to customize their education by selecting seminars, elective courses, engaging in dissertation research, or pursuing internships. This flexibility allows students to focus on specific areas of interest. For instance, they may choose to specialize in environmental law (publiek recht en duurzaamheid) or explore topics in the social domain (social security law and refugee law). Conversely, students can opt to concentrate on constitutional or political aspects (Koninkrijksrecht, Politiek staatsrecht). Additionally, we offer a unique graduation variant of the Law and Governance Master's degree program in Leeuwarden, which specifically centers around digital security issues.
Our teaching approach not only prioritizes knowledge acquisition but also encourages students to actively connect theory with practice. For instance, we organize events such as the “Burger, bedrijf en overheid” (Citizens, Business and Government) Masterclass, the VAR Moot Court Competition, and the Student Parliament, which challenge students to apply their knowledge in practical settings.Law graduates from the Department of Constitutional, Administrative and Public Administration hold a strong position in the labour market. Besides the traditional professional practice in the judiciary and in the legal profession, for which a ‘civil effect’(employability) is a prerequisite, our students also find employment in legal positions, management positions and administrative roles in government (e.g., ministries, provinces, municipalities), social organizations or the business sector. The department maintains excellent connections with the professional field, including the judiciary and the legal profession, ensuring that our graduates are well-equipped to thrive in their chosen careers.
