EU ERC Project: EVICT
Having a place to call home is a fundamental human right, but every year hundred thousands of people are evicted from their home. They lose their home involuntary. The EVICT project aims to understand if and how the international right to housing helps people to stay in their homes.
Why, when and to what extent does the international human right to housing have an impact in an eviction case in Barcelona, The Hague or Glasgow? To answer these questions, the EVICT project explores the complex relationship between international and national law. We use legal theories to understand and explain the dynamics between international and national courts, but also work with theories from other scientific disciplines. Besides that, the EVICT project adopts a unique data-driven approach. We combine traditional legal methods with data science techniques, such as network analysis and machine learning, to find and explain predictors for court decisions.
