Projects

NIG’s research activities include topics focusing on the Dutch legal system and subjects examined from an international perspective. At the forefront of the research is the concept of ‘law and governance’ – issues relating to family law, real estate law and corporate law, as well as the tax aspects thereof, and notarial deontology.

The NIG is involved in numerous national and international projects. Within the Dutch legal sphere, research is being conducted into the following areas:

Real estate law:

• Foreclosure sales (Visser)
• Leaseholds (Vonck)
• Apartment owners associations, (Vegter)
• Leasehold appraisal (De Koe)
• Public registers and the cadastre (Kolkman, Timmer, Verstappen en Vonck)

Family law:

• Preclusion of claims by one spouse on assets accruing to the other spouse during marriage (Kolkman and Verstappen)
• Management of minors’ property (Ter Haar)
• Fideicommissary substitution (Brinkman)
• Dutch divorce property law manual (Verstappen)
• Succession law manual (Verstappen)
• Testamentary Formalities, a project by the International Succession Law Group (to be published)

Corporate law:

• Conversion of the form of legal entities (defended on 11 February 2010 by Birgit Snijder-Kuijpers)

Notarial deontology:

• The effects of market forces on notarial practice (Plaggemars)
• Good notarial practice (Kolkman, preliminary advice for the Royal Dutch Notarial Society 2010)
