Dr J.H.M. (Hans) ter Haar, LLM
Hans ter Haar (born 7 december 1970) has been Assistant Professor in Notarial Law with the Department of Private Law and Notarial Law of the University of Groningen since February 2003. He worked in notarial practice as a candidate civil law notary for seven years. His teaching and research mainly focus on matrimonial property law, law on the profession of the civil law notary public and the electronic signature. On 25 April 2013 Hans successfully defended his thesis entitled "Minors and property". Currently, he is collaborating with other researchers to conduct a study commissioned by the Scientific Research and Documentation Centre of the Ministry of Security and Justice. The research draws on insights from his thesis and is entitled 'Supervision of parental custody over the assets of minors in relation to the new law of succession'. In addition to this study, he is contributing to the study entitled 'Towards a more efficient administration of justice'. This research, which is sponsored by the Royal Association of Civil Law Notaries (KNB), the Promotion of Notarial Science Foundation (Stichting tot bevordering der notariële wetenschap), and Netwerk Notarissen, concerns the question how certain judicial procedures can become more efficient through the assistance of third parties, such as the civil law notary. Hans ter Haar wrote or contributed to more than 25 scientific articles. He is contributing to the commentary 'T&C Tekst en Commentaar' on the Dutch Civil Code and is a co-author (together with Prof Dr Wilbert Kolkman) of the book 'Personen- en familierecht en
erfrecht in een notendop'.
