Dr. Ruven Fleming invited to present his findings on 'Shale Gas in Europe' at the University of Aberdeen
On 7 March 2018 Assistant Professor in Energy Law, Dr. Ruven Fleming, presented his latest book 'Shale Gas, the Environment and Energy Security' and his findings on the topic at the University of Aberdeen, UK. Dr. Fleming had been invited by the Aberdeen University Centre for Energy Law and its Director, Prof. Dr. Tina Hunter, to give a guest lecture on the topic.
The lecture picked up on the recent controversy about shale gas extraction in Europe and explained how the constitutional objectives environmental protection and energy security are stearing decision-making processes. Dr. Fleming presented a new methodology, the 'trias' of objectives, principles and rules and pointed out how it could help to reconcile the conflicting interests .This 'trias' methodology reaches beyond the context of shale gas extraction and could be used to develop sound regulation for a variety of new energy technologies in the context of the energy transition.
More information on the guest lecture can be found at the website of the University of Aberdeen.
