09 July 2021

Following, among others, the study on Irresponsible Consumer Credit Lending across the EU in the Post-crisis Era conducted by the GCEFSL researchers Olha Cherednychenko and Jesse Meindertsma for the European Commission Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (FISMA) in 2018, on 30 June 2021, the European Commission proposed revisions to the 2008 Consumer Credit Directive. The Commission Proposal reflects the conclusions and recommendations of the study by Cherednychenko and Meindertsma as published in their article Irresponsible Lending in the Post-Crisis Era: Is the EU Consumer Credit Directive Fit for Its Purpose? in Journal of Consumer Policy (2019).
