Marc Hertogh wins Best Practice in Teaching & Learning Award
Marc Hertogh, Professor of Socio-Legal Studies at our Faculty, has won the Best Practice in Teaching & Learning Award. He received the award for his best practice Teaching Policy Analysis in the Real World. We warmly congratulate him!
Educational innovation
During previous years, students who attended the Seminar Policy Analysis worked on a fictional policy problem. Hertogh showed educational innovation by letting students work on an existing problem and by having them write a policy recommendation to the Dutch House of Representatives. These recommendations were eventually used in the legislative process of the new Whistleblower Protection Act.

Broadening of the teaching method
Since 2022, the Best Practice in Teaching and Learning Award has replaced the Teacher of the Year election. By changing the concept, the University of Groningen wants to recognize and award all those involved in the broadening of the teaching methods repertoire within the UG.
The award is presented annually to the lecturer, or lecturer team having the most inspiring, most sensible, best designed teaching project at the University of Groningen, or simply by having the most ambitious one. The project should have the potential to improve the quality of teaching and to broaden the teaching repertoire. Nominations must meet the BPA criteria.
Kick-off of the Education Festival
The Best Practice in Teaching & Learning Award also kicks off the Education Festival. This year, the festival is themed Collaboration in Teaching and Learning. It takes place until Thursday 30 March 2023 and the programme can be found on the UG-website.
