Emile Noël Global Fellowship and Antitrust Writing Award for Dr Justin Lindeboom

Assistant Professor of European Law Justin Lindeboom was awarded an Emile Noël Global Fellowship to do research at the Jean Monnet Center for International and Regional Economic Law & Justice at New York University (NYU) School of Law. He also won an Antitrust Writing Award for his article 'Formalism in Competition Law', published last year in the international journal Journal of Competition Law & Economics.
Emile Noël Global Fellow
The Jean Monnet Center is a research center at NYU focused on European integration, international and regional economic law and comparative constitutional law. This research center is headed by Prof. J.H.H. Weiler, one of the world's leading authorities in international and European law. Every year, a highly selective group of Emile Noël Global Fellows are invited to participate in all research activities of NYU School of Law and also work on their own research project. Lindeboom's research project focuses on the role of the principle of equality of the States in the history of US constitutional law, European constitutional law and international law. Lindeboom will reside in New York City from January to May 2024.
Antitrust Writing Award
The Antitrust Writing Awards are organised annually by the competition law publisher Concurrences and the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. From more than 345 submissions for nomination, an international expert jury chose the best articles from 2023 in ten categories. Lindeboom's article was voted the best academic article in the 'procedure' category. In his article, he analyses the meaning and role of the concept of '(legal) formalism' in US and European competition law. In doing so, he applies theories from general legal theory to competition law to gain more insight into contemporary debates on how competition law rules are applied.
