Prof. Brigit Toebes advises UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health

Dr. Brigit Toebes, professor international health law, is currently advising the UN Special Rapporteur,  on the Right to Health on health sector corruption and the right to health (April - July 2017).

At its twenty-sixth session in June 2014, the United Nations Human Rights Council appointed Mr. Dainius Pūras, from Lithuania, as Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health. Dainius Pūras, a medical doctor with notable expertise on mental health and child‘s health, took up his functions as UN Special Rapporteur on 1 August 2014. Special Rapporteurs are independent experts appointed by the Human Rights Council to examine and report back on a country situation or a specific human rights theme.

Prof. Brigit Toebes is employed by the University of Groningen Faculty of Law as Associate Professor and Rosalind Franklin Fellow at the Department of International Law. She teaches public international law, international humanitarian law, and human rights law. Her research focuses on how international legal standard-setting instruments play a role in the protection of health.

The advisory process of Toebes with the UN Special Rapporteur runs until August 2017.
