Friday 5 and Saturday 6 October the department of Legal History of the University of Groningen organizes, in cooperation with the departments of Legal History of the Radboud University Nijmegen and the University of Leiden, a seminar in honor of the life and works of Rudolf (von) Jhering (1818-1892), part of which will be an excursion to Jhering's place of birth: Aurich. Working languages are German and English.
During the seminar Jhering's contributions to the study of Roman Law as valid during his days will be reviewed, as well as his thoughts on practising research in law, his ideas on legal education and ofcourse the impact of his philosophy on modernday private law in various countries, whose legal systems are (co-)based on Roman Law.
