Civil society movements are driving global environmental change. NGOs like Urgenda, Milieudefensie, and Greenpeace have led climate lawsuits against Shell and the Dutch government. Similar cases are emerging worldwide, including in Indonesia.

Arie Rompas, an environmental activist in Indonesia, successfully led litigation to protect peatlands in Kalimantan. On 27 February 2025, he will come to the Röling Building to share his experiences on this case and the response of the government.

Rompas will be joined by Siti Ruhama, PhD candidate in the Department of SBB at our Faculty. Her research focuses on the role of judges in climate litigation.

The lecture will take place between 3 and 5 p.m. in the Bakker-Nort Room of the Röling Building. You don't have to sign up.
