Dimitry Kochenov in Financial Times: 'Citizenship is not a sentiment, it is a legal status'

19 November 2014

Prof. Dimitry Kochenov (EU Constitutional Law) gave an interview to the Financial Times (free registration required) on the thinning substance of the concept of citizenship and citizenship and residence by investment, a rising global industry. Since the industry's image can suffer as a result of corruption scandals and abuse, like the ongoing Portuguese golden visas scandal, the need for clear self regulation is apparent. The dynamic development of the substance of the concept of citizenship is one of Prof. Kochenov's key themes of research engagement. He has recently published a note on EU citizenship by investment and co-founded the Investment Migration Council, a global association of investment migration professionals.
