During the RuG Ventures Innovation Day 2023 on 14 June, Prof. Dr. Erik Frijlink received the first ever and well deserved Innovation Day Award from the Board of the University of Groningen and Corina Prent (Director RuG ventures).
On the RuG Ventures website, Frijlink is characterised as an academic innovator, and the perfect example of a scientific entrepreneur. His achievements in this aspect are highlighted by his ability to develop breakthrough technologies which are a product of fundamental science and applications. Successfully balancing the tradeoff between publications and patenting. Focusing on big problems that require “out of the box” bold solutions to have an impact. And, last but not least, employing proven go-to market strategies that generated revenue by saving lives.
