Publication of UG Annual Report 2022
The UG Annual Report 2022 is online. It is only in Dutch as of yet, but the English version will be published around 1 August. In this report, the University of Groningen accounts in words and figures for the policy pursued in calendar year 2022 and the allocation of the national government funds.
Among other things, much attention is paid to the policy of establishing diverse connections with society and the region through interdisciplinary Schools and the University of the North (UvhN) partnership. The report goes on to discuss security in multiple areas, like knowledge security, social security, cybersecurity, privacy and international cooperation. A major event was the war in Ukraine, which caused prices to rise and inflation to surge. Whereas in 2019 the RUG was still spending about € 9 mln on energy, in 2022 it will be as much as over € 26 mln. It led to a number of measures to save energy.
Inflation and developments in energy prices have a major impact on the RUG's result and reserve position. Steps have since been taken to turn around the deficits anticipated for the coming years in stages until there is at least a sustainable spending balance in 2026. To this end, the program ‘TeRUG in Balance '26’ was created. Compared to previous years, no major changes occurred. For example, the number of students remained almost at the same level of approximately 35,000. The proportion of international students continued to increase by just over one percentage point, from 25.8% to 27.2%.
