First University of the North roadshow dedicated to water
Following up on last year's successful roadshow series, the University of the North is organizing its first roadshow of 2023 to take place in the afternoon of Wednesday 14 June. The roadshow will be dedicated to water and will take place at Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences and Wetsus in Leeuwarden.
Water is a hot topic. We have been battling the water for centuries, yet at the same time we are faced with a drinking water shortage by 2030 if we don't take action now. And there are many more issues at hand. It's high time for a roadshow on water!
REGAIN - turning purified waste water into industrial water
The roadshow to be held on 14 June will start at Van Hall Larenstein UAS in Leeuwarden. Dirk van der Woerdt, strategic advisor at WLN - REGAIN, will discuss how the Centre of Expertise Water Technology—which consists of NHL Stenden UAS, Van Hall Larenstein UAS, and Wetsus—the UMCG, WLN, North Water, and Noorderzijlvest’s Water Board are cooperating within the REGAIN project. REGAIN is aimed at studying the removal of medical residues from purified waste water and finding ways of repurposing the purified water as industrial water.
Robust water management with the residents of Terschelling
The roadshow will also give us a closer look at the ‘Handelingsperspectief Landbouw Terschelling’ (agricultural action perspective Terschelling) project. Mindert de Vries, who is an expert in Nature Based Solutions at Van Hall Larenstein UAS, will discuss how Van Hall Larenstein UAS, Wageningen University & Research, and Deltares are working with the residents of Terschelling to make the island's water management robust towards the future.
A tour at Wetsus
The afternoon will close with a walk to nearby Wetsus, where a tour of the laboratory will be given. The tour will end with a drinks reception.
Registration
Those who are interested can now register to take part in the roadshow! The doors will open at Van Hall Larenstein UAS in Leeuwarden at 2.30 p.m. The event kicks off at 3.00 p.m. At 4.15 p.m. the company will walk to Wetsus for a tour and a drinks reception.
