Improved compute cluster Hábrók in production at the end of March 2023

13 February 2023

In recent months, a lot of hard work has gone into building Hábrók, the UG's new HPC computing cluster and the replacement for the current Peregrine cluster. Hábrók will be commissioned at the end of March.

In the meantime, the current Peregrine cluster will continue to run. The focus is currently on the migration of all user data, so that the transition from Peregrine to Hábrók will be as smooth as possible for all users.

Extra computing power and security for researchers

Hábrók is located in the new Coenraad Bron Center and offers scientists and research groups the opportunity to perform large-scale calculations on a centrally managed compute cluster. This means that all calculation activities are concentrated in one secure place within the university. With the latest hardware, the Hábrók cluster offers more computing power and storage capacity than its predecessor. By placing Hábrók in an HPC cloud, the cluster can be expanded quickly and physical compute nodes can easily be converted into machines for virtual workloads as needed.

Want to know more?

More (technical) specifications and information about the use of the compute cluster can be found on the High Performance Computing webpage. Or look in Iris, the portal with information about university IT services (login required). Here you will also find information about requesting access to the compute cluster.
