Caspar van den Berg as new Dean of the UG/Campus Fryslân

The Executive Board of the University of Groningen (UG) has appointed Prof. Caspar van den Berg as Dean of the University of Groningen/Campus Fryslân (0,6 fte, three days per week), effective immediately. Prof. Van den Berg succeeds Prof. Andrej Zwitter, who stepped down as dean on 1 February, 2023 after 4.5 years in the role. Prof. Van den Berg has been appointed for an interim period until 1 January 2024.
Since 2017, Prof. Van den Berg has been Professor of Global and Local Governance at Campus Fryslân. In addition to this position, he was also academic director of the Graduate School Campus Fryslân from 2018 to 2021. Following this, in 2021 Prof. Van den Berg was appointed professor by special appointment of Transitions in the Public Sector at Leiden University (one day per week). He has also been a member of the Dutch Senate since 2022.
Prof. Van den Berg, together with drs. Piet Bouma, now form the board of the 11th faculty of the University of Groningen, which is located in De Beurs in Leeuwarden.
Caspar van den Berg is pleased with his appointment: “In recent years, the faculty has already built up a strong position with its education and research, in the region and in the academic world. I see it as a wonderful assignment to steer the next phase of the development of this campus."
