Threats
Academics are increasingly facing threats, intimidation, and hate speech in response to media and other public appearances. Rector Jacquelien Scherpen:
‘In my role as Rector Magnificus, I consider it important that the University of Groningen is an open and diverse academic community, where academic freedom is highly valued. When this academic freedom is challenged by intimidating and threatening reactions, this can have serious implications for our research and teaching. We aim to protect our staff by adhering to the national handbook of the Universities of the Netherlands (UNL) and by taking transparent
measures within our University. Our staff can count on support when faced with challenging or difficult situations.’
