Cisca Wijmenga appointed as EMBO member

Rector Magnificus Cisca Wijmenga is now one of the 67 new members of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). The EMBO is an international organization comprising 1,900 members, all nominated by their peers. The aim of the EMBO is to support talented researchers in all stages of their careers and to stimulate interaction and the exchange of scientific knowledge.
Excellence in life sciences
New EMBO members are chosen annually to recognize their contributions to scientific excellence. Among the 67 new members are three Dutch researchers, including Wijmenga. Members are able to join the Council, committees, and editorial boards. In addition, they may act as mentors for young scientists and nominate other researchers for membership. Through this, as a group, all members of the EMBO influence the direction that life sciences in Europe takes and ensure a strong research community.
