Looking at the sun
Stare at the sun during the Landelijke Zonnekijkdag (‘National Sun-Watching Day’), an initiative by the Royal Netherlands Association for Meteorology and Astronomy. During this national event on 3 July, you can safely wonder at the sun through a telescope. From migrating sunspots to swirling loops of gas that are bigger than the Earth: you can look at the sun through special telescopes. Astronomers from the Kapteyn Institute will be present at various locations.
In the province of Groningen, the event will take place at the following locations:
- In the city centre, on the roof of the Forum (12 noon – 6 p.m.)
- Along the Wadden coast at Lauwersnest, Lauwersoog (12 noon – 5 p.m.)
- On the dike by ’t Zielhoes in Noordpolderzijl (12 noon – 5 p.m.)
- At Hoofdweg 56 in Kolham, with amateur astronomer Wim Zijlema (1 – 4 p.m.)
- At the observatory at Sportweg 48 in Bellingwolde (municipality of Westerwolde) (2 – 5 p.m.)
