In the spotlight: Aletta Jacobs professors - Prof. Louise Meijering
One of the University’s main ambitions is having more women from all over the world in higher academic positions. This goal is a perfect addition to the UG’s journey towards achieving an inclusive and diverse community. The Rosalind Franklin Fellowship was established at the UG years ago and the Aletta Jacobs chairs were created in 2020. A special incentive fund was created for the establishment of these Aletta Jacobs chair positions exclusively for female academics. Through this fund, female academics at the UG can be promoted from associate professor to full professor. With the help of the fund, the University hopes to promote gender equality at the full professor level within the UG. Right now, there are 17 Aletta Jacobs professors.
In this series of videos, we put some of these professors in the spotlight and let them tell us about their work, career, passions, and interests. What do they find important in their work? What are their ambitions? What is it like working at the University as a woman? These are some of the topics that are addressed.
The second episode features Professor of Health Geography Louise Meijering. She leads a research programme on the wellbeing of elderly people in relation to mobility and place attachment. In the future, she would like to conduct a long-term study with underprivileged groups to investigate the mechanisms that put and keep these individuals in marginalized positions.
Watch the previous episode with prof. Susan Aasman.
