Best Practice in Teaching & Learning Award Presented

The course unit ‘Climate Change, End Times, Sustainability’ at the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies has won the UG Best Practice in Teaching & Learning Award. Lecturers Dr Erin Wilson, Dr Tina Otten, Linde Draaisma, and Henk van Putten used podcasts and real-life discussions to show students the different religious and philosophical perspectives on climate change and the end of the world.

A simulation exercise developed for the course unit ‘International Humanitarian Action’ at the Faculty of Arts received the second prize as runner-up, and the e-learning modules at the Faculty of Medical Sciences came in third. The winners were announced on 8 April during the Education Festival. Students were also able to vote for their favourite ‘best practice’ during the festival. The winner—blended learning via Twitch, Discord, and YouTube as used by Dr Steffen Eriksen of the Faculty of Economics and Business—received the Honours College Award.

The Best Practice in Teaching & Learning Award is the successor to the well-known Lecturer of the Year Award and was created to dedicate recognition to good teaching and learning practices. Each faculty can nominate one candidate. The winner is awarded €5,000 and the two runners-up are awarded €2,500 each. The winner of the Honours College Award is given the opportunity by the Honours College to develop a teaching innovation practice.
