Teun Havinga new student assessor to the Board
The University of Groningen is the first university in the Netherlands with a student assessor to the Board of the University. The Student Assessor is an advisor to the Board and has influence on the policy of the university. In 2019/20, Tjitske Schokker (24) filled this position. Her successor in 2020/21 is Teun Havinga (23).
The position
A student assessor gives advice to the Board during policymaking and focuses on Education, Students and Internationalization and Inclusion. The student assessor is present during all meetings of the Board. Considering the different tasks the student assessor has, he/she will be in close contact with the Rector Magnificus. The official transition is on the first day of the new Academic Year; Monday 31 August 2020, but Teun is attending multiple activities with Tjitske already.
Teun introduces himself
Dear students,
My name is Teun Havinga and in the upcoming academic year I will fulfill the position of student assessor to the Board of the University. I have been studying at our beautiful university for four years and I am currently studying Spatial Planning and Design at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences. In the past year, I have been the secretary of the Central Executive Organ for Student Organisations (CUOS), where I have been working intensively on student organization affairs. Additionally, I have been active in politics within Groningen over the past couple of years and I am working as a student driver. The upcoming year will pose many challenges with regard to the coronavirus. Not only in education, but also in active student life. I will be committed to these matters and all other issues that students face.
I hope to meet and talk to many of you in the upcoming year!
