UG 8th on world list of 780 sustainable universities
This year, the University of Groningen finished in 8th place in the GreenMetric 2019 UI. Compared to last year, the UG has dropped one place, but scored the same amount of points as the University of Leiden, which ended in 7th place in the rankings. Of the 780 participating universities, Wageningen University & Research is the most sustainable. The University of Groningen is in 3rd place for the Netherlands.
The UI GreenMetric ranking was set up by Universitas Indonesia to draw attention to sustainability in the policy of universities. The universities are ranked by comparing numerical data in the areas of "Setting and Infrastructure", "Energy and Climate Change", "Waste", "Water", "Transportation" and "Education".

UG sustainability policy
The UG is committed to more sustainability in education and research, but also in business operations, renovation and new construction projects. More about the university's sustainable goals can be found in the Roadmap 2015 - 2020. The Green Office is amongst others currently working on new sustainable ambitions for the Roadmap 2020 - 2025.
The Green Office promotes sustainability in the UG by informing and inspiring students and staff and by advising on the university's policy on sustainability.
