Many changes on the Zernike Campus last summer
In summer, much construction work has been done on the Zernike Campus.
Renewed roads, cycle paths, traffic lights and a real food court have been added. This also means an end to the sometimes annoying road closures and diversions. Thanks for your cooperation and patience! And enjoy the renewed Campus.
Food Court is open!
At the Kapteynborg location a food court is open for you where meeting, relaxing, socializing with fellow students or colleagues, good food and drinks are the main core. See for yourself at Landleven 12.

Zernikelaan improved
The entrance to the Zernike Campus from the south, the Zernikelaan, was much improved during the summer by contractor Oosterhof Holman. New asphalt, wider ring road exits and cycle paths, safer crossings and traffic lights will improve the traffic flow. In the fall, additional landscaping will be done, which will cause no further traffic hindrance.
The next phase in
upgrading the Zernikelaan
will be the north part (summer of 2020).
Aletta Jacobshal extension
The extension to the Aletta Jacobshal, which will double the size , is progressing as scheduled. Contractor BAM has almost reached the highest point of the new building. In addition to new lecture and examination rooms, the new wing will also have an extra foyer, study facilities and more bicycle racks. The building will also become more sustainable thanks to a geothermal energy system and solar panels. The project is to be completed mid-2020.
Feringa Building
The construction of the Feringa Building has started with the foundation piles for the first phase. At the moment 125 piles of 2000 in total are made by contractor Ballast Nedam. This process is carried out with as little vibration and noise nuisance as possible: instead of driving piles into the ground, boreholes are made, reinforced and filled with concrete. By mid-2021, the first research groups of the Faculty can start taking up residence in this part of the new Feringa Building.
Jaagpad reopened
The important cycle routes to Zernike Campus along the Reitdiep -Jaagpad and Blauwbrugje- are accessible again. The cycle path and the bridge were closed off since June by “WarmteStad” to create a geothermal heat grid for sustainable heating of the campus and the adjacent residential area.
An upgrade is the addition of a footpath next to Jaagpad so that cyclists and pedestrians can use the route more safely together.
