Lively discussions at the Annual GEC Scientific Meeting
The annual GEC Scientific Meeting is an event dedicated to discussions between engineering researchers at the University of Groningen with the purpose of facilitating new cutting-edge joint project and initiatives. This year the meeting was organised together with the Groningen Engineering Business Center (GEBC); a collaboration between industry and the Faculty of Science and Engineering of the University of Groningen to deverlop a sustainable and consistent relationship in the field of engineering with the aim to encourage and facilitate developments, research and innovation of companies that are located in the Northern Netherlands.
The meeting edition, which took place on 29 January and gathered more than 120 participants, has achieved this goal. It offered ample opportunities for discussions during the poster session that advertised the research conducted by 4th year PhD students, and during the network breaks. The keynote lecture "Engineered Discovery in Space Research" by Prof. Michael Wise, Director General of SRON Netherlands for Space Research, stimulated lively interaction with the audience. The second part of the program, parallel sessions with the themes Green Chemistry, Software Intensive Systems and High Tech Systems and Materials, was aimed at collaboration between researchers of the university and industry.
During an Award Ceremony Roy Reints (MSc) received the GEC Best PhD Poster Award for the project "Self-adjusting insole to prevent diabetic foot ulcers" and Dr. Xiaodong Cheng received the GEC Best PhD Thesis Award for his study titled "Model Reduction of Network Systems with Structure Preservation".
