School pupils and their parents discover the UG and the city of Groningen

Open Day at the University of Groningen on Friday 9 November
07 November 2018

On Friday 9 November, over 11,000 school pupils from the Netherlands and abroad will visit the University of Groningen (UG) during its annual Open Day. The prospective students can choose a maximum of four degree programmes to find out about throughout the day. The degree programmes will present themselves as much as possible in their own faculties, spread across the city. In addition, the pupils and their parents can attend lectures, visit information markets, take workshops on choosing a degree programme or take a guided city tour.

In addition to the degree programme presentations, themed lectures are organized during the Open Day, for example about finding a room, living on a budget, the differences between studying at HBO or at uni, and Groningen’s student life. Special lectures for prospective students from abroad are also included in the programme, given in English and in German.
Choosing a programme can be difficult. That’s why a workshop on this topic is offered during the Open Day, about who you are, what your ambitions are and which programmes are a good match for you. These matters will be discussed
during the workshops .

Information markets

Attending classes, talking to students, lecturers and study advisors, meeting people who you might sit next to in class next year. Getting an impression of the city of Groningen, where you might end up spending four or five years of your life. Collecting information and getting a taste of the atmosphere – that is what the UG Open Day on Friday 9 November is all about. All UG Bachelor’s degree programmes will present themselves on the Open Day. Registration via www.rug.nl/opendag is compulsory if you wish to attend the Open Day.

How do I enrol at the UG? How much study loan can I receive per month? What are the latest developments in decentralized selection and matching procedures? How do I find a room? What provisions are in place for students with a functional impairment? When is the KEI week? What student associations are there in Groningen? You can get an answer to these and other questions at the two general information markets at the Academy Building in the city centre and at the Duisenberg Building in the Zernike Campus.

Getting to know the city

Haven’t been in Groningen yet? No worries. During the Open Day, you can discover the city in walking tours guided by students. Prospective students from abroad always particularly enjoy this option. Whatever visitors choose, an Open Day with 11,000 visitors will not pass by unnoticed by the cafés, bars and restaurants in the city.
