UG in 120th place in the QS rankings
This year, the University of Groningen (UG) holds 120th place in the QS World University Rankings for 2019. For the past two years, the UG has been in 113th place on this list of almost 1,000 universities worldwide. On a national scale, the UG has risen two places this year: from 6 to 4. The new Top University ranking list was presented on the evening of Wednesday 6 June.
In 2015, the UG achieved its highest-ever position in the QS with 90th place. Like most other Dutch universities, Groningen has gradually dropped down the list ever since. This may be due to changes in the methodology, such as more weight being attached to citations in the Humanities and Social Sciences than those in Sciences and Medical Sciences, or to regional versus international response in the reputation surveys. The highest placed Dutch universities are TU Delft (52), the University of Amsterdam (57) and Eindhoven University of Technology (99).
The UG features in the top 100 of the two oldest and most prestigious international ranking lists: 59th in the Shanghai Rankings (ARWU), and 83rd in the Times Higher Education rankings.
