Pop-up university at Northern Knowledge Festival
Are you interested in digitization challenges and what is going on in this area in teaching and research at the University of Groningen? If so, come to the Knowledge Festival in Groningen on Wednesday 27 September and visit our pop-up university on the theme of ‘Digitization Knowledge Hub’. Plunge into the exciting world of academic research through workshops, showcases and encounters with researchers from a wide range of disciplines.
The ‘ Biggest Knowledge Festival in the Northern Netherlands ’ will be held on Wednesday 27 September from 1 to 9 p.m. at the former Suikerunie site in Groningen. The event will focus on the search for new and effective forms of innovation, organization, collaboration and entrepreneurship. The festival will feature inspirational speakers and creative sessions, interspersed with theatre, music, food and drink.
Digitization in academia
Prof. Iris Vis, Dean of Industry Relations, sees the festival as a marvellous opportunity for sharing knowledge in a creative way and for showcasing the fascinating research being done in this area at the UG. ‘For Day 1 we are building a pop-up university on the theme of digitization across the full spectrum of academic disciplines: from the arts and social sciences to the exact sciences, and of course engineering. In a range of workshops, researchers will show how disciplines such as philosophy, archaeology, law and engineering are working on research projects on digitization. The Groningen Engineering Centre and the Center for Information Technology will demonstrate on site what technologies are available and how they can be used to examine the issues facing society. It goes without saying that we won’t be coming to the festival empty-handed.
Our researchers will be bringing along digital innovations such as robots and 3D visualizations.’
Meet and greet
At the Festival the UG seeks to encourage encounters between its researchers and representatives from industry, civil society organizations and various authorities in order to forge links for the future. ‘That’s why we’ve also scheduled a meet and greetwith researchers and other UG experts,’ says Prof. Vis.
The full programme and timetable can be found on the festival website . An entry fee will apply.
