Free online course on Energy Transition starts October 24

Getting educated was never easier: all you need is an internet-connection and your time and attention. On 24 October the free online course ‘Solving the Energy Puzzle’ launches its third edition. The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) will provide an insight into the vast array of issues surrounding the complexity of the energy transition, one of the hottest topics worldwide today. Upon completion after 7 weeks, participants will be well-informed about the issues involved in one of the major global challenges today, the energy transition. The course is open to anyone interested in the subject at hand and was composed by the University of Groningen and Energy Academy.

In this interactive course, six lecturers from five different Groningen University faculties will share their knowledge touching on technological, legal, economic, spatial and social aspects of the energy transition. The course starts off with prof. dr. André Faaij, academic director of Energy Academy Europe, with an introductionary talk about the urgency of energy transition and the integral approach of the worldwide energy system. In the following three weeks prof. dr. ir. Gerard Dijkema, prof. mr. dr. Martha Roggenkamp and prof. dr. Machiel Mulder will lecture about the technical, the legal and the economical aspects, looking at the complexity of energy systems, the basic principles of energy law and the economical effects of energy-transition policies. Subsequently dr. Christian Zuidema and prof. dr. Linda Steg will be dealing with the spatial and psychological aspects of sustainable energy systems. In the final week the participants will apply their acquired knowledge and skills to analyse a real-world energy transition challenge in their own country.

During the seven weeks of the course the students will be engaged with videos, articles, discussions and quizzes. Through these varied methods the participants will share their views on energy transition and sustainability with their fellow students.
