Discover the unknown during the Night of Art & Science

For one night, Saturday 4 June, Groningen will once again be the capital of Art and Science on during the Night of Art & Science festival. The Night’s itinerary will take you on a personal quest for the ‘unknown’ through unexpected encounters between art and science in extraordinary locations. You will enjoy lectures, workshops, exhibitions, debates, scientific experiments, theatre, dance and unique performances in which art and science merge. The University of Groningen is well represented at The Night, with an extensive academic programme.
At the Academy Building, visitors can find out all there is to know about blood, or admire the impressive Plusminus exhibition of our house poet Philip Rozema. You can learn about the workings of the heart at the Heart of Participation, or experiment with a dowsing rod on the Academy Square. You can help create a heat chart of Groningen hotspots at Ja! Groningen, or walk around our galaxy in the inflatable planetarium.
Church of Science
The Der Aa Church will once again be transformed into a Church of Science, in collaboration with Science Linx. Here you can find out about new scientific developments or perform experiments yourself. This is also the location of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Discovery Truck, as well as the Triviant Science Shop, where you can ask the University questions. At the Night Museum in the Synagogue, modern historian Tom Slootweg will demonstrate the intimate link between art and science using a painting he selected from the art collection of the Martini Hospital.
University Museum
The University Museum will also be represented at The Night. Visitors can admire the Museum’s permanent collection or listen to the music of various singer-songwriters and watch romantic movie scenes. University of Groningen researcher Jan de Jong will reveal the secrets of Greek art in plaster cast. In short, there is enough to see during The Night!
