Attention RefWorks users: Write-N-Cite 3will soon disappear

19 April 2016

What is Write-N-Cite again? Write-N-Cite is the convenient plug-in that comes with RefWorks and allows you to easily cite literature in Word and create a reading list.

Write-N-Cite 3 disappears after May 2

Some employees still use the old version of Write-N-Cite, version 3. That is going to disappear. As of May 2, Write-N-Cite 3 will no longer be supported.

There will be an enhanced version of Write-N-Cite 4

From May 2, Write-N-Cite 04.04.1376 will be available via the Start menu. This update includes several improvements, among other things that you no longer need to enter a Group Code on the login page .

Should you do something?

Are you working .....

  • on a UMCG computer?
Once UMCG employees switch to the new workplace (WOM), they automatically work with version 4.

If you previously used version 3, you can easily continue your work in the same document with version 4. First you will be asked if you would like to convert, which you can answer with 'yes'. To be sure everything goes smoothly, save your document under a different name before converting it.

If you did not previously use RefWorks, but you would like to, please indicate this to your department's functional manager.
  • on a university computer ?
For employees with a university computer, a new version of Write-N-Cite - version 4.4.1376 - will be available via the Start menu from May 2.
  • at home ?
Do you want to use Write-N-Cite off-campus? The easiest way to do this is to log on to your workplace via uwp.rug.nl (university employees) or toegang.umcg.nl (UMCG employees). Another option is to install the latest version of Write-N-Cite to your PC or laptop via RefWorks by choosing <Tools> in the menu and then <Write-N-Cite>.
