Households are paying 1.1 percent (EUR 7) more in local taxes this year than in 2015. The dog licence fee has fallen on average by 10 percent. These are just some of the figures from the Atlas of Local Taxes presented today by COELO, the University of Groningen’s centre for research on local government economics .

Each year homeowners pay property tax, a waste collection levy and a sewerage levy to their local council. Multi-person households pay an average of EUR 723 for these local taxes. For the second year in a row, Aalten has the lowest levies (EUR 539) and Blaricum the highest (EUR 1,215).

Calculate your own local taxes

As of today anyone can work out their local taxes using the local tax calculator (http://www.coelo.nl/index.php/wat-betaal-ik-waar/LLC2016). This gives you an immediate comparison with the previous year’s taxes and with taxes in any other specified municipality.
