Frisian faculty fast approaching

The Province of Fryslân, the University of Groningen and the municipality of Leeuwarden are currently discussing plans for the establishment of a University faculty in Leeuwarden. The Provisional name is RUG/Campus Fryslân. The three parties expect to reach agreement in late September. The plans under discussion comprise establishing a Master’s College, a broad-based English-taught Bachelor’s degree programme and an academic research school for four-year research projects focusing on Frisian themes.
The discussions are progressing well and the atmosphere is positive. No further preliminary announcements will be made until the negotiations have been completed. Once a plan for establishing RUG/Campus Fryslân is agreed, it will be submitted to the States-Provincial, the Board of the University of Groningen and the municipal council of Leeuwarden.
