Global trade and income inequality

29 April 2015

An iPad is developed in the US but produced in China. Who does what and where and for what price? Prof. Marcel Timmer of the Groningen Growth and Development Centre received a Vici grant to study the evolving global trade. What are the consequences for jobs and incomes for workers at regional, national and global levels?

Timmer: ‘Increasing income inequality is one of the greatest social challenges of our time. This research aims to map the causes of this growing inequality, so that we can formulate better policies to counter the undesirable consequences of fragmented world trade in the future.’

The weekly online video magazine Unifocus highlights topics related to the University of Groningen in the fields of research and society, student life, teaching, policy and internationalization.
