University of Groningen Nerdalize start-up receives Ministerial funding

The University of Groningen’s Nerdalize is one of eight academic start-ups that State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science Sander Dekker today announced would received funding from the Ministry. The funding is in the form of a € 250,000 loan. The new company must develop a commercial application for its innovative scientific knowledge.
Nerdalize wants to link the fact that large data centres require significant cooling to the need for heating in homes. If computers are installed in homes in the form of heating elements, they can carry out their complex calculations and provide heating. The home-owners will have lower energy bills, and Nerdalize can offer competitive rates for data services because there will be no more need for large server farms requiring cooling.
