University of Groningen registers 30,000th enrolment
For the first time in its history, the University of Groningen has reached a record number of 30,000 enrolments. The total number of students currently enrolled in the University of Groningen is 30,041, a rise of 3.2% in relation to 2013. The University’s market share in the Netherlands remains unchanged, and it stays in 3rd position behind the University of Amsterdam (1) and Utrecht University (2). A total of 6,254 students enrolled for the first time.
Large proportion of international students
The number of international students studying in Groningen has continued to rise, from 4,151 to 4,551. At present, 13.2% of the students come from abroad. This figure is 23.6% for international students enrolling for the first time.
President of the Board of the University, Sibrand Poppema, is delighted with this development: ‘The University of Groningen is well and truly on the map, both nationally and internationally. There is a lot of respect for our teaching and research, and this is reflected in the rise in student numbers and our position in international ranking lists. I am proud to welcome even more international students to Groningen; they are an increasingly important factor in the growth of our university.’
