New Unifocus video's: kick-off of the first MOOC; left-handed molecules; and moral behaviour by consumers

10 September 2014

The new Unifocus, the video magazine of the University of Groningen, is online. In this week's edition:

  • First free online University of Groningen course. On 15 September 2014, the University’s first free online course (Decision making in a complex and uncertain world) will kick off. Anyone interested will be able to register after 15 September as well.
  • Giving molecules a new twist. Sander Wezenberg is studying ‘molecular handedness’. Many molecules in nature have a non-superimposable mirror image (left and right-handedness). The relationship between the left and right-handed molecules appears to influence certain important biological functions.
  • Goody-goodies and soy butter. Although consumers find it important to behave morally, extremely moral behaviour can irritate others. Jan Willem Bolderdijk wants to study the relevance of this mechanism for the marketing of sustainable food sources.

Each episode of the biweekly online video magazine Unifocus includes three items related to the University of Groningen, in the fields of research and society, student life, teaching, policy and internationalization.
