Automatic exam registration for University of Groningen students

25 August 2014

Starting next academic year, all Groningen students will be automatically registered for examinations if they are registered for a course unit. Previously, students usually had to register separately for their exams. Registering for a course unit in Progress will now automatically result in registration for the related exam and any resit. This applies to all the faculties and also means that students will automatically have a place reserved for them in the examination hall.

There are a number of conditions: the student’s registration must be valid for the University of Groningen and the entrance and progress requirements for the relevant course unit must have been satisfied. In addition, students who are not registered for a course unit will still have to register for the examination themselves. Faculties will inform students about these conditions.

Background

For students, the new way of working will be more user-friendly because they will no longer have to register separately for examinations. In addition, late registration and the related administrative fee will no longer be necessary. These changes are the result of a memorandum from the University Council group Lijst Calimero and a decision by the Board of the University in summer 2013. The experiences of degree programmes that already work with similar systems were used in designing the new procedure.

Deregister

Last academic year, several essential technical and organizational changes were made so that this measure could be introduced. In order to make optimum use of the limited space available in the examination halls, it is important that the number of registrations for an examination is correct. Students are thus urgently requested to deregister for exams or resits they do not intend to take.
