Board of the University: RUG400 staff, thanks!
Last weekend, the celebrations of the 400th anniversary of the University were rounded off in fine style with the awarding of ten honorary doctorates, the alumni day and a closing party. This has brought to an end a month of festivities, lectures, debates, culture and music. The Board of the University can look back on these remarkable anniversary celebrations with pride and satisfaction and would like to warmly thank everyone involved in this success. ‘Staff of the Lustrum Office, student boards, volunteers, other staff and students who helped out, alumni, townsfolk, Lustrum Advisory Board, and all those I’m bound to have forgotten but have more than played their part: I take my hat off to you all and thank you from the bottom of my heart!’ said a happy Sibrand Poppema, President of the Board of the University.
The Board would like to thank the following people in particular: Els van den Berg, (RUG400 Lustrum coordinator), Jodien Houwers (organizer of the reception of the COIMBRA university representatives) and Joke Jalvingh (organizer of the honorary doctorates ceremony). With the help of many others, they ensured that the University of Groningen, despite turning 400 years old, was presented as bursting with life.
