Health psychology department starts research into effects of treating despondency in chronically ill patients
People with a chronic illness, such as heart disease or diabetes, often feel low and do not enjoy life as much as they could. The University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) is starting research into the effects of treatment aimed at improving the mood of people in this group. The treatment consists of mindfulness training, which trains people to focus their attention and awareness. Mindfulness training is becoming an increasingly common method for treating despondency. The aim of the research is to discover whether this training reduces dispirited feelings in people with a chronic illness. The research is being coordinated by the Health Psychology Department of the UMCG.
