University of Groningen in Global Top 100 Nature Publishing Index
The University of Groningen has broken into the top 100 universities in the Global Top 200 Publishing Index of the scientific journal Nature. The ranking list is based on publications from 2012 in Nature and monthly journals such as Nature Chemistry, Nature Nanotechnology and Nature Physics. Utrecht University (53rd) and the University of Groningen (96th) are the only Dutch universities in the top 100 of the Nature Publishing Index.
The commendable position in the Nature ranking list is partly due to a publication by gastroenterologist Dr Rinse Weersma. He conducted a large-scale genetic study of the pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory diseases in the intestines. In this episode of Unifocus (video), Weersma talks about his research on Crohn’s disease and colitis ulcerosa.
The University drew special attention to its top 100 ranking with an advertisement: Born scientists reach for infinity.
