09 November 2012

Professor Martha Roggenkamp of the Groningen Centre of Energy Law (GCEL) has organised and is chairing a conference session of the the Energy Delta Convention on 'Developing a North Sea Electricity Grid: Technical and Regulatory Obstacles and Solutions'.  The session is due to be held on Tuesday 20 November between 15:45 and 17:15 at the EDC's Martiniplaza venue.  Imar Doornbos of the Netherlands' Department of Economic Affairs will speak about the policy debate concerning a North Sea grid development, whilst Miriam van Dellen, Senior Manager of Legal Affairs at TenneT GmbH will discuss legal and other challenges encountered with providing electricity transmission infrastructure during the early expansion of offshore wind energy in German waters.  Dr Madeleine Gibescu (Delft University of Technology) and Dr Olivia Woolley (GCEL) will respectively examine technical and legal difficulties that such a major undertaking could raise, and possible solutions to them.  Dr Gibescu and Dr Woolley are both involved with a 4 year NWO-funded collaborative research project between TUD and GCEL on the development of transnational offshore electricity infrastructure.
