Picchioni wins RUG Audience and Web Awards
Francesco Picchioni, lecturer and professor at the Groningen Faculty of Science and Engineering (formerly known as the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences), won both the Audience Award and the Web Award in the University of Groningen Lecturer of the Year Elections held on 2 February 2012. Dr Laura Batstra of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences was voted Lecturer of the Year 2011 after the mini-lecture round by the jury of experts.
Prof. Francesco Picchioniis professor of Chemical Technology and lecturer for the degree programmes in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Management. In 2010 he was one of the winners of the Faculty of Science and Engineering Teaching Award. He was also voted Gouden Docent (Golden Lecturer) 2010 – a prize awarded by the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society to stimulate initiatives and innovation in chemistry teaching.
The annual Lecturer of the Year elections at the University of Groningen was transmitted live over the internet. Students and lecturers were able to vote for their chosen nominee via the University website. A total of 1025 votes were cast for the Web Award, of which about a third went to Francesco Picchioni.
