University of Groningen coordinator Erasmus Mundus project with Argentina
On Thursday 14 July 2011 the European Commission published the selection results of Erasmus Mundus Action 2 (formerly External Cooperation Window). The consortium “Europlata” led by the University of Groningen has been awarded funding for PhD, postdoctoral and staff mobility in the social sciences from Argentina to Europe. Additionally, the consortium “Eurotango” coordinated by the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia that started off last year, is once again selected to receive funding in 2011.
This means that the University of Groningen is involved with two prestigious Erasmus Mundus projects in Argentina, involving multiple academic fields ranging from the social sciences and public administration (Europlata) to natural sciences and engineering (Eurotango). Groningen and the other European partners will be welcoming Argentine students – mainly PhDs – for the three-year duration of the projects as of 2012.
The University of Groningen has experience with EM projects in the Latin American region: its Faculty of Arts coordinated lots with Mexico (2008) and Mexico & Central America (2009) and the university has been partner in projects with Argentina, Bolivia & Peru (2009) and Argentina (2010).
A dedicated Europlata website will follow shortly.
