Nobel laureate Al Gore to open EBF Conference in Martiniplaza
On Thursday 29 September, Nobel laureate Al Gore will be opening the EBF Conference, the annual conference of the Economics and Business Faculty Society of the University of Groningen, in the Martiniplaza. The former Vice President of the United States will give a lecture that day on climate change, sustainability and responsible leadership. The EBF is delighted to invite representatives of the business world to register for the conference and attend Gore’s lecture.
In 2007, together with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to draw wider attention to climate change caused by human activity. He is thus the ideal opening speaker for the EBF Conference, which this year is organized under the title: ‘Reboot: responsible leadership, responsible growth’.
Attention to sustainability
Board member Martin van der Meulen: ‘We are delighted that Al Gore has agreed to give a lecture at the EBF Conference. He fits perfectly into the theme of our event. We want to use this conference to draw extra attention to the importance of sustainability in Groningen. I hereby invite businesses and entrepreneurs to register and attend this inspiring conference.’
Vice chair Mart Beune, responsible for the theme and the speakers at the conference, is proud of Gore’s attendance: ‘It took a lot of time and preparation to persuade him to come to Groningen. It’s wonderful that our efforts have been rewarded.’
Programme
Following Gore’s lecture there will be a network meeting for participants from the business world. The conference will then continue with an academic afternoon at the Faculty of Economics and Business. On Friday 30 September, prominent representatives of the business world and local governments will give lectures, masterclasses and workshops. All senior students and interested parties from the business world can register.
