Following acute myocardial infarction it is important to administer percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), but also to remove the thrombus that caused the infarction. A recently developed technique is now used for thrombus aspiration, which improves the outcome after acute myocardial infarction. A large study at the University Medical Center Groningen demonstrated the improved epicardial blood flow to the myocardium following this new procedure.
