University of Groningen has excellent assessment in 2011 Higher Education Guide

With twelve degree programmes the best in their category, seven in second place and two in third place, as well as joint second place in the rankings for broad-based classical universities, the University of Groningen has achieved an excellent assessment in the Consumer Guide to Higher Education 2011.

Each year the Guide discusses all the academic degree programmes available.
This year, 55 of the University of Groningen’s degree programmes were examined in detail. Of these, 21 achieved a ranking in the top three in their category.
Of the broad-based classical universities, Leiden is in top position with Groningen and Nijmegen tying for second place.

Top three positions

  • Religious Studies, 1st place in the religious studies category and shared 12th place in the top 25 of university Bachelor’s programmes
  • Artificial Intelligence, joint 1st place in the category artificial intelligence
  • Information Science/Humanities Computing, 1st place in the category information science
    Greek & Latin, joint 1st place in the category Greek (incl. modern) & Latin
  • Philosophy of a specific discipline, 1st place in the category Philosophy of a specific discipline
    Philosophy, 1st place in the category philosophy
  • Movement Sciences, 1st place in the category movement sciences
  • Environmental and infrastructure planning, joint 1st place in the category landscape architecture/environmental and infrastructure planning
  • Social Geography & Planning, 1st place in the category social geography & planning
  • Pharmacy, 1st place in the category pharmacy
  • Law & Administration, 1st place in the category law & management
  • Scandinavian Languages, 1st place in the category Scandinavian languages
  • Mathematics, 2nd place in the category mathematics
  • Chemistry, 2nd place in the category chemistry
  • Physics, 2nd place in the category physics & astronomy
  • Dentistry, 2nd place in the category dentistry
  • Biology, 2nd place in the category biology
  • German Language & Culture, 2nd in the category German language & culture
  • Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2nd place in the category pharmaceutical sciences
  • Medicine, 3rd place in the category medicine
  • Astronomy, 3rd place in the category physics & astronomy
