Knowledge Hub lets budding talent bloom

25 August 2010

On Friday 3 September Prof. Sibrand Poppema, the President of the Board of the University of Groningen, will open the Orion Wetenschapsknooppunt, or Knowledge Hub. This new project, jointly organized by the University of Groningen and the Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, aims to encourage primary school pupils in the northern Netherlands to develop their talents at a young age.

The Knowledge Hub combines activities organized by the University Museum, the University of Groningen Student Academy, the Discovery truck, the mobile planetarium of the Kapteyn Institute of Astronomy and the De Magneet science centre of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen. In addition, extra editions of the Children’s University will be organized via the Knowledge Hub and tailor-made activities can be organized in cooperation with schools.

About twenty schools in and around the city of Groningen, including two special schools, participate in the Knowledge Hub. The Knowledge Hub will be funded for two years by a EUR 200,000 grant from the Orion programme of the national Platform Bèta Techniek.
